Pry Them Loose!

I watched this video clip about a week ago and it hit me between the eyes. I love that about Francis Chan; he doesn’t sugar coat his point. You never have to wonder…where is he going with this?

(Click the photo below to watch the video)

I am NOT saying you shouldn’t homeschool (I did for three years) if that is where God is leading or make your kids where helmets or make safe choices for your family. What did hit me was the visual of Francis clinging to the balance beam bar, paralyzed by fear, afraid to take a risk or to move.

Is this the way I am living out my one and only life? Is God leading me to do something for Him that feels crazy (yes!) and I am too busy clinging to the bar to notice? What about you? Does this resonate with anyone else?

When we finish our routine (aka, our life) and we are before our Judge, what will He say about the routine we presented for this life? Will He say, “Well done!”?...

Or will He say, “What was that?”

What if we didn’t do anything? What if we missed why we were put here?

I don’t believe the “safe” life is what God calls us to live out. I think He wants us to take risks for Him (and He is with us every step), to be willing to go on an adventure, to be willing to be uncomfortable and stretched beyond what feels comfortable. That’s when God shows up the biggest, right?…when we are completely over our heads and totally dependent on His strength. That’s when He does His most awesome work through us. It’s when the miracles happen.

I don’t want to be in the majority on this. I want to be in the minority. What about you? Food for thought this week…

Lord, pry our fingers off the bar! Give us courage to release our grip on the safest most secure way. Make us brave enough to risk a possible failure. Our greatest failure would be to do nothing, when you are calling us to move! Holy Spirit, light a fire in us and propel us forward into the calling you have planned for us. Amen.

***FYI:
Just a note for those who filled out the survey I did last week on rest…thanks so much for taking the time to do it. I will be writing about the results next week and where I will go from here after looking at people’s answers.

If you are an imperfect wife, mom, daughter, or friend, struggling to stay focused on God in the craziness and find joy in the heartache, then we have something in common. I am a recovering perfectionist and daughter of the King, slowly learning to fully trust the One who sees me just as I am, and is already pleased. I’m so glad you are here.
