Lean Into the Fear!

I spoke at a community group, parents in various stages of life, this past weekend. It was my first time speaking to a larger group. I knew God has been preparing me to speak. I knew it was my assignment from Him.

Until my husband and I pulled into the church parking lot. Then I started to panic.

All the questions from the enemy started: “Who do you think you are? You have nothing to offer them. What good is your story to them?

I felt the urge to tell my husband to turn the car around and take me home instead of walking into that church.

But then God whispered to my heart, “Lean into your fear. I am with you. Trust Me.”

Every time I started to panic, I repeated that phrase to myself; “lean into the fear.”

As I stood up and started speaking to the group, I felt God’s Spirit filling me, and I felt peace. I was doing what God had asked me to do. And He was with me every step of the way.

It was an amazing experience, and I believe God did use what I said to encourage others. Satan and his lies were defeated that day.

I leaned into the fear. I completed the specific mission God asked me to do. And God was so faithful, as He always is.

When I am afraid, I will trust in You. – Psalm 56:3

God makes us brave. He will always give you the courage you need to step into your mission and complete it.

Sometimes, we have to take that first step afraid.

As we step out in faith and obey, God will change our fear into peace, and our courage will grow.

He will not ask us to do something for His Kingdom, and then not be there to help us complete the assignment! That isn’t the kind of God we serve.

Beth more said something at a conference I attended that has stuck with me: “Self-protection is one of the biggest reasons we miss our callings.”

She is so right. When we get afraid, we tend to shut down and withdraw. We don’t want to look ridiculous, right? And Satan uses our fear to get us to quit, to not carry out what we were put on this earth to do.

Taking a risk is so hard.

But Jesus is so worth it!

You will never be sorry that you stepped out and took a risk for Jesus. Yes, it will be hard. Our missions will always be beyond our abilities. But they aren’t beyond God’s abilities. He will provide you with everything you need.

What mission is God asking you to do? What is that stirring and passion in your heart that keeps you up at night?

Ask God to show you the next right step. Don’t miss what you are here for! Don’t let Satan feed your fear with lies. If you are a child of God, Satan has no power over you. He just wants you to think that he does.

Ask God to show you the mission He has for you here on this earth.

Then ask Him for the courage to take that first step afraid…

“Lean into your fear.”

As you take that first step, He will transform your fear into courage.

Lord, I praise you for never leaving us alone in our fear. Thank you for showing up this past weekend, as you always do, and giving me courage. You made me feel brave and you gave me peace. Jesus, help us all to be on our specific missions that you have for us. Show us that next right step. Amen.
