Jump In Anyway

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. - Psalm 56:3

Have you ever had one of those moments when you know God wants you to do something, but it’s a crazy idea, and if He doesn’t come through...you will be in big trouble?

God has been placing a growing conviction in my heart (for about a year now) for the poor, the homeless, the marginalized….those who desperately need help but don’t have the resources to get that help. I’ve been a Christian for a long time, but never has my heart felt the way it does about the subject of the poor. I don’t know what God is doing, but He is being very intentional and very direct about getting my attention, and growing my love for the poor.

About six months ago I heard a message by Francis Chan and he was talking about a ministry to the poor he’d served with called San Francisco City Impact. I googled the ministry and cried through every video they have on their website (not normal for me).

Questions have come to my heart through this ministry…

If we don’t go, who will?

What would you do if it was your daughter or son?

If there are so many Christians in America, why didn’t you come sooner and tell me about Jesus?

Ugh... such a wrestle in my heart. A wrestle with fear and a dread of being stretched, vulnerable and uncomfortable. Fear of what God is asking of me.

Through a series of miracles, my husband and I will soon be getting the chance to go serve and learn with the staff and volunteers at San Francisco City Impact. We have never served in the inner city before anywhere. Apparently the inner city of San Francisco (called The Tenderloin) can be compared to Skid Row in Los Angeles.

I am both terrified and giddy about our trip. I go from praising God and giddy with excitement to complete panic and begging God for His Presence to go with us.

I imagine that’s right where God wants me.

Can I ask you to pray for us? We are desperate for God to be with us every second of our trip.

Below is a video called “Why We Exist” by SF City Impact that I wanted to share:

I asked God to give me one more confirmation that we are to go (huge faith, right?! Ha. Lord, thank you for your mercy).

Here is the Scripture I read:

While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: Why does he eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?”
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” - Mark 2:15-17

Confirmation received and filed.

My brother and his wife and children have recently moved to the Dominican Republic to do mission work. I received their newsletter update a couple of days ago and I love something my brother said about one of his girls:
“She seems to have found the key to making this new life work: it is okay to be afraid, but jump in anyway.”

Jump in anyway.

Lord, as long as you are with us every second, may we lean into our fear and jump into what you have for us. As we head out on the adventures you have planned for us, and we take steps of faith, I believe you will turn that fear into courage. Amen.

Thank you for your prayers!

How can I pray for you?

If you are an imperfect wife, mom, daughter, or friend, struggling to stay focused on God in the craziness and find joy in the heartache, then we have something in common. I am a recovering perfectionist and daughter of the King, slowly learning to fully trust the One who sees me just as I am, and is already pleased. I’m so glad you are here.
