How Do I Get To Heaven?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
- John 3:16

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
- Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Romans 6:23

In the beginning, God created us to reflect His image and to have a relationship with Him (Genesis 1:27). We were created good, but then sin entered the world. We chose to live life on our own, apart from God.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 5:8

God sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross and pay the price for our sins and bring us into a relationship with Him. Through Jesus, we can know the hope of eternal life and also experience the profound joy of knowing Him while we are here on earth.

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
- Romans 10:9-10, 13 (NIV)

Steps to Accepting Jesus:

  1. Acknowledge that you have sinned and there is nothing you can do to earn God's love. It is a free gift to us if we accept it, because of Jesus.
  2. Believe and confess that Jesus is Lord. Allow Him to direct and guide your life. We invite Jesus to be Lord of our hearts and lives.
  3. Pray to accept Jesus as Savior.

If you have decided to follow Jesus and you are not sure how to pray, you may want to use the prayer below as a guide to help you: God, please forgive me for all my sins. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to die for all of my sins-past, present, and future. Today I am receiving your gift of grace and I am trading in my sinful life and accepting Jesus as my Savior. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord. Fill me with your Holy Spirit this moment and show me your will and your plan for my life. Don’t let me miss my destiny that you have for me. Let me be a light in this dark world. In Jesus name, Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer, you are now a child of God! What an amazing miracle. Please share this decision with someone you love and trust and ask them what the next steps should be for you. Be baptized (Acts 10:48). If you have a church, tell your pastor about it. Find a godly mentor, who can teach you how to be a follower of Jesus. Start reading your Bible and praying, asking God what to do next. He will be your ultimate guide. He is faithful, loving, and constant.

God chose you. He loves you. He has a specific plan for your life that he had planned for you even before you were born. He gave you all the gifts, talent and strength you will need to carry this plan out during your lifetime.
See verses: John 15:16, Eph. 2:10, Eph. 1:4, Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:16, 2 Tim. 2:19.

The decision to give your heart to Jesus is yours, not anyone else’s. He is waiting for you when you are ready. He pursues you constantly, waiting for you and loving you.

Read Psalm 139 in the Bible-God has a specific plan for you. He made you wonderful. He loves you more than you could ever imagine!

Giving your heart to Jesus is the most important decision in all of life. When Jesus lives in your heart, he becomes your guide-he shows you your purpose in life; why he made you. He will show you what he wants you to do during your life. He loves you and will never leave you.

The simplicity of the gospel is often hard for people to grasp. We think that receiving eternal life in heaven and the gift of the Holy Spirit here on earth should take longer than a few minutes. But remember that the work has already been done by Jesus on the cross. All we have to do is receive the gift. The moment you accept Christ as your Savior, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Once the Holy Spirit is in you, he will never leave you or forsake you.
