His Name

When it feels like everything is shifting sand in your world; your kids are grown and you don’t know where you fit anymore (or they are still little and you feel like you are drowning in the craziness and unpredictability); your parents are aging, your job is uncertain, your finances are a mess…
His name is El Olam - The Everlasting God
He never changes. He is our security. There are no surprises to God.
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
- Psalm 90:1-2

When your loved one doesn’t see your heart - they don't know you. When your relationship feels strained and uncomfortable…
His name is Abba - Father
Abba is the Aramaic word meaning Daddy, Father.
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
- Romans 8:15

When you feel utterly alone and despair has set in. When you are out in the desert and you just want to lay down and give up...
His name is El Roi - The God Who Sees
The angle of the Lord found Hagar...Genesis 16:7 (which means he was looking for her).
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
- Genesis 16:13

When you are exhausted and tired of fighting…
HIs name is Yahweh-Nissi - The Lord My Banner
God is banner over us all of the time. Banner means, “to be high” or “raised.” When our enemy attacks, the Lord is our banner and shield. He is behind us and before us.
Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner.
- Exodus 17:15

When you need safety and you need a Savior…
His name is Yahweh-Raah - The Lord My Shepherd
I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me - just as the FAther knows me and I know the Father - and I lay down my life for the sheep.
- John 10:14-15

When you are in terrible pain, your health is in shambles, and when you don’t know what tomorrow holds. Whether your body is broken, or your heart is broken…
His name is Yahweh-Rapha - The Lord That Healeth
Jesus came to heal us and set us free. He is our Comforter and our Great Physician. He is Sovereign over all. In whatever way he chooses, whether to heal here on earth or not until eternity, he is the Lord Almighty, our Healer.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion - Psalm 103:2-4
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
- Psalm 147:3

When anxiety and fear are overwhelming your heart regarding your future, your spouse, your children, your purpose: or maybe you don’t even know why, but you feel so afraid…
His name is Yahweh-Shalom - The Lord Is Peace
When we are submitted to His authority, peace comes. When our heart chooses to trust him even when we don’t understand, peace comes. God’s grace makes our hearts content. And when your heart is content, you will find peace. And only in Jesus will you find perfect peace.
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.
- Isaiah 26:3-4

When we just need someone to be there...
His name is Yahweh-Shammah - The Lord Is There
God is omnipresent. He is everywhere. He is always with us.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, your are there; if I make my bed in the depths, your are there.
- Psalm 139:7-8

Jesus.
His name makes me want to raise my hands in praise and drop to my knees in awe, all at the same time. May his name always be where we start. His name brings grace and mercy and redemption and power. His name is love. May we speak his name out loud to defeat our enemy.
May we pray boldly, in Jesus’ name. May everything we do and say begin and end with his beautiful and holy and powerful name.
Jesus.

I listened to a song this week that sings about His name and I wanted to share it with you. It’s called “His Name,” by Urban Rescue.

Click the picture below to listen to the song:

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- Philippians 2:9-11

If you are an imperfect wife, mom, daughter, or friend, struggling to stay focused on God in the craziness and find joy in the heartache, then we have something in common. I am a recovering perfectionist and daughter of the King, slowly learning to fully trust the One who sees me just as I am, and is already pleased. I’m so glad you are here.
