From Impossible To Wonderful

I have noticed that things feel extra sad and broken in our world this Christmas. Does anyone agree? Every day I read about or hear about a new heartbreak for a family, a struggle, an act of violence, an illness, a deep and unbearable loss. I’ve been dragging that heaviness around in my heart for a while now, and then I saw this quote…

“When God intends to make something wonderful he begins with a difficulty. When he intends to make something very wonderful, he begins with an impossibility.” – Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Coggan

God can make something wonderful out of what feels impossible to us.

Throughout history, God has been a God of impossible situations. He has always been a God who is in control and has a good and perfect plan. He is a trustworthy God. Do we believe that when we can’t see the “good” and “perfect” in our plan? It is so hard.

I think of Jesus’ birth this Christmas. Jesus being born to a virgin was an impossible thing, but God made it possible.

…but God made it possible. I hold on to this phrase this Christmas and I choose to remember Who God is. When life feels overwhelming and when our hearts ache and we long for joy…

Remember Jesus. He chose to come down to this mess and be in it with us. We are never alone even when it feels dark all around us. Jesus is the One who can bring joy and light, and maybe even some laughter, to what may feel like an impossible Christmas.

Today I choose to trust Him and believe the impossible. It is His specialty. Will you too?

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. – Ephesians 3:20-21
