Be A Doer!

I was listening to another (yes, another) Francis Chan video. I think this guy is the real deal. I think he loves Jesus more than anything else. I know that by looking at his life. He’s actually living like a disciple of Jesus.

I watched this two-minute video clip a couple of days ago and I was kind of shocked… (click the image to play)

Conviction hit me in the face (not condemnation).

Am I just memorizing, having studies, and saying it in Greek? Am I??

Francis Chan moved with his family to San Francisco and started a ministry called Adopt A Building (click here for the youtube video). He’s going in to one of the most troubled areas of San Francisco called the Tenderloin district and trying to start a church in each of it’s 586 apartment buildings (sfcityimpact.com). This amazes me.

It’s interesting…the more my heart stirs and feels the truth of what it would mean to be a true disciple of Jesus, the more joy I have. I can’t imagine how much joy Francis Chan has.

So what will I do with this? What about you?

I don’t know just yet, but I must DO SOMETHING.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. – James 1:22-24

Lord, I don’t let me go away and forget what I have learned. Forgive me for often just being a hearer and not a doer. I don’t want to be a hearer who forgets. I want to be a doer who acts. Show me the next step. Show us the next step. In Jesus name, Amen.

If you are an imperfect wife, mom, daughter, or friend, struggling to stay focused on God in the craziness and find joy in the heartache, then we have something in common. I am a recovering perfectionist and daughter of the King, slowly learning to fully trust the One who sees me just as I am, and is already pleased. I’m so glad you are here.
