A Glimpse of God

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” – Isaiah 6:1-6

I had started the weekend with my mind swimming with everything that was wrong in my life. I was able to go with my husband on a business trip last weekend, so I had planned on really digging into some of the struggles I hadn’t had time to process, and bringing them before the Lord.

And then I watched a podcast by Francis Chan called, “Reviving Our Hearts For Worship.” And as God often does, He completely shifted my plan.

“If we truly see how big God is, it would be the solution to most of our problems. Isaiah saw God, even when his circumstances were bad.” – Francis Chan

When we are focused on our problems, our view of God is small and we become ungrateful. When we spend time looking at the awesomeness of God, our response can only be to fall facedown in worship.

The solution to our problems?...don’t look deeper at them; look deeper at God and Who He is. I love that! It is both humbling and convicting. It is good for me to remember my place before Almighty God. As Isaiah says, “Woe to me.”

Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking. – Ezekiel 1:28

Getting a glimpse of God was the best thing that happened to me over this past weekend. Instead of spending time looking deeper at my problems, I spent a lot of time in tears and in awe of my Savior. I spent a lot of time worshipping God on the floor of the hotel room. I am so grateful for that special time, and for my different perspective. Thank you, Father. And thanks, Francis Chan.

What will your response be when you actually SEE Him?

A favorite song I love that will quickly shift your heart into worship mode:

If you are an imperfect wife, mom, daughter, or friend, struggling to stay focused on God in the craziness and find joy in the heartache, then we have something in common. I am a recovering perfectionist and daughter of the King, slowly learning to fully trust the One who sees me just as I am, and is already pleased. I’m so glad you are here.
